Two nights in the desert with no signal

What happens when the phone goes quiet and the sky gets loud.

The first night

The signal drops about twenty minutes after the last paved road. Most of the group checks their phones once, then puts them away for good.

Dinner is cooked in the sand. Someone points out the first star and nobody looks down again until midnight.

The second morning

You wake up before sunrise because the light comes in through the tent walls. Coffee, a short walk up the nearest dune and a long silence.

It is the part of the trip people mention first when they get home.
