Why autumn works
October turns the valley gold. The poplars change color, the apricot harvest is done and the skies stay clear for most of the month.
It is cooler than summer, so mornings need a warm layer. Afternoons are bright and easy for walking.
Where to stay
Karimabad is the best base. You can walk to Baltit Fort, the old bazaar and a handful of cafés with views of Rakaposhi.
What not to miss
Sunrise at Eagle’s Nest, a slow boat on Attabad Lake and the drive up to Khunjerab if the weather allows.
